A Botox treatment is usually not particularly painful. Most patients experience only a slight pinch at the injection sites, as very fine needles are used, and any discomfort is typically brief.

1. Blood-thinning medications and supplements: Avoid blood-thinning medications and certain supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen (e.g., Advil and Motrin), vitamin E, fish oil, and omega-3 supplements. These can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. It’s recommended to stop using aspirin about 10 days before your treatment, ibuprofen and vitamin E about 5 days before, and omega-3 supplements 1-2 weeks prior to your appointment.
2. Alcohol: Alcohol can thin your blood and increase the risk of bruising. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your treatment.
3. Nutrition: Make sure to eat properly on the day of treatment. This helps prevent dizziness during the procedure.
4. Facial Treatments: Avoid chemical peels, waxing, thread lifts, or laser hair removal for at least two weeks before botulinum toxin treatments.

After Botox Treatment

• Avoid touching or pressing on the treated areas during the first 4 hours.
• High heat, such as saunas, sunbathing, and exercise, should be avoided for at least 24 hours—preferably up to 48 hours—to optimize results.
• Avoid regular makeup on injection sites for the rest of the day.
• If you have something planned later that day, like enjoying a glass of wine, that is fine after Botox.

After Fillers

• Swelling and tenderness varies depending on the treated area:
  • Temples, cheeks, and jawline: usually mild swelling that subsides quickly.
  • Lips: swelling and bruising are more common, so extra planning might be helpful.
• Avoid intense physical activity for 24 hours.
• Refrain from alcohol the same day to minimize the risk of swelling and bruising.
• We offer a sterile foundation that can be applied immediately after treatment to cover any redness if you have plans afterwards.

After Profhilo

• No downtime is required; you can return to your normal activities right away.
• Mild redness or swelling may occur but usually resolves quickly.

After More Intensive Treatments, e.g. Harmonyca, Sculptra, or Radiesse

• Swelling, redness, and tenderness may be more noticeable, and some patients may need a recovery period.
• Feel free to use a disposable cold pack, which we’ll provide, for about 20 minutes to reduce swelling and any soreness immediately after treatment.
• Avoid intense physical activity for 48 hours and exposure to high heat, including saunas and direct sunlight.
• Makeup should be avoided the same day, but we offer sterile foundation if you need an even finish immediately afterward.
• Some patients may notice a mild sensation of activity in the skin over the coming weeks—this is a sign that the skin is strengthening and is a positive effect of the treatment.

With injection treatments such as fillers, Botox, HarmonyCA, and Sculptra, there is always a certain risk of bruising, although the risk varies from person to person. Bruising can occur when small blood vessels at the injection site are affected.

In general, bruises tend to disappear within 5–10 days, but they may sometimes last a bit longer depending on the area and how sensitive your skin is. To reduce the risk of bruising, it is a good idea to avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen), and fish oil for a few days before the treatment, as these can increase the risk of bleeding.

If a bruise does appear, applying something cold locally after treatment can help minimize it. Using arnica cream or a mild concealer (such as our sterile foundation) can also help cover the mark during healing.
