A positive experience begins with trust

Fear of the dentist can have many causes. Perhaps you have had an unpleasant experience in the past, are afraid of pain or find it difficult to give up control during treatment. Dental anxiety may even have caused you to postpone seeing a dentist for a long time. Whatever your situation, you are welcome at Vaasa Smiles. You never need to apologise for your fear or feel embarrassed about your teeth.

Dentist Jenni Forss has more than 20 years of clinical experience and extensive experience in caring for patients with dental fear and dental anxiety. Together as a team, we have helped many patients achieve more positive experiences of dental care. Many of our patients have told us that our calm approach and clear communication have made their visits easier to manage.

If you have had difficult experiences in the past, you are welcome to tell us as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing. This helps us understand what we should pay particular attention to and what may help you feel safer during your visit.

How we help if you are afraid of the dentist

Our approach is based on listening, predictability and making sure you are involved throughout your care. Before treatment, we discuss what concerns you, what will happen during your visit and how we can make the experience easier for you.

• You remain in control. We agree on a clear stop signal. Whenever you want to pause, we stop.

• You know what is happening. We explain the treatment step by step and agree on how much information you would like before each stage.

• We take your fears into account. Tell us if you are particularly worried about pain, local anaesthetic, sounds or specific situations so that we can adapt our approach and plan your visit together.

• We check how you are feeling. We work calmly, check in with you regularly and allow time for questions and breaks.

• Your comfort matters. Our soft, ergonomic treatment chair provides comfortable support for your body. A blanket, weighted blanket and earplugs are also available when needed and according to your preferences.

You do not need to overcome your fear of the dentist before coming to see us. We meet you where you are and proceed one step at a time.

The clinic is modernly equipped with new technology, including an intraoral scanner

Using an intraoral scanner to take digital impressions in dentistry offers several advantages, making the process better, more accurate, and more comfortable for the patient. Here’s why:

  • Greater precision: An intraoral scanner creates a digital 3D model of your teeth and gums with extremely high accuracy. This gives the dentist an exact image of your dental structure, resulting in better fit and quality for crowns, bridges, or aligners. It also reduces the risk of needing adjustments later on.
  • Increased comfort: Traditional impressions are taken with impression materials pressed against the teeth, which can feel uncomfortable—especially for people with a sensitive gag reflex. With an intraoral scanner, no impression material is needed, making the process much more pleasant and stress-free.
  • Faster process: The digital scanning process allows information to be sent directly to dental technicians, which shortens treatment time.
  • Fewer errors and adjustments: Because the impressions are digital, there’s less risk of errors that can happen with traditional impressions, such as air bubbles or deformation in the material. This means fewer adjustments and a smoother treatment process.
